About Me

MY BACKGROUND

 

Andre V. Johnson, Jr. represents District 34A in the Maryland General Assembly, where he has served since 2022 with a focus on education, healthcare, transportation, criminal justice reform, and environmental sustainability. A strong advocate for his constituents, he regularly engages with community leaders and collaborates with fellow lawmakers to advance policies that promote equity and opportunity.


Delegate Johnson serves on the House Economic Matters Committee, where he helps shape legislation on labor, business regulation, consumer protection, and economic development. He is also a member of the Alcoholic Beverages Subcommittee, Unemployment Insurance Subcommittee  and the Joint Committee on Federal Relations, where he works on issues directly affecting Maryland workers and families.


Prior to his legislative role, Delegate Johnson served on the Harford County Council (2018–2022), helping to manage county budgets and public programs. His public service career spans decades, including roles as a Baltimore City Police Officer, Harford County Sheriff’s Deputy, Special Investigator for Baltimore City Housing, and Public Safety Officer at Goucher College. He is also a proud U.S. Army veteran.


A lifelong resident of Harford County, Delegate Johnson is a father of five and grandfather of three. Outside of public office, he has mentored youth through coaching basketball and football, using sports to instill values of discipline and leadership. His deep-rooted commitment to service continues to guide his work in building a safer, stronger Maryland.

Tenure Elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in November 2022. Member of the House of Delegates since January 11, 2023.
